CCX®
Next-Generation GCCM for Canal Lining and Large Infrastructure
CCX® is a next-generation Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mat (GCCM) designed for lining large, uniformly profiled infrastructure. It provides durable erosion protection while helping reduce water seepage losses, making it ideal for large-scale applications such as irrigation canals, stormwater drainage channels and hydroelectric flumes. CCX® can also be used for surface protection of earth structures and geomembranes where durable hard-armour protection is required.
Like Concrete Canvas®, CCX® is a flexible, concrete-filled geosynthetic that hardens upon hydration to form a thin, durable concrete layer. Its fibre-reinforced structure provides flexibility to accommodate differential ground movement while helping limit crack propagation.
CCX® is available in two variants: CCX-MAT® (CCX-M®) and CCX-UTILITY® (CCX-U®).

CCX-MAT® (CCX-M®)
CCX-M® incorporates a 0.3 mm LLDPE backing to provide low permeability and reduce water seepage losses. The composite concrete surface provides long-term durability and can accommodate differential ground movement due to the fibre reinforcement within the material.
CCX-M® is particularly well suited for lining and rehabilitating channels and irrigation canals, helping extend infrastructure service life while reducing seepage losses.
CCX-M® is typically jointed using a combination of mechanical fasteners, adhesive sealant and thermal bonding.
CCX-UTILITY® (CCX-U®)
CCX-U® is manufactured without an LLDPE geomembrane backing, making it suitable for applications where permeability is not critical.
It is designed for surface protection of uniformly profiled slopes and earth structures, including erosion protection from wind and rain. CCX-U® can also be used to provide hard-armour protection for geomembranes and liners, helping protect against impact damage and weathering.
CCX-U® can be jointed using a combination of mechanical fasteners and thermal bonding.
Benefits of Using CCX®
- Rapid Installation – CCX® can be installed quickly and put into service approximately 24 hours after hydration, helping maximize installation volumes during critical infrastructure shutdown.
- Reduced Seepage – CCX-M® incorporates an LLDPE backing to reduce water seepage losses while the fibre-reinforced structure accommodates differential ground movement and helps limit crack propagation.
- Composite Solution – CCX® combines the low permeability of a geomembrane with the protection and durability of concrete, providing a durable alternative to conventional concrete lining solutions.
- Low Logistical Footprint – At approximately 14.5–15.5 kg/m², CCX® is more than 10 times lighter per unit area than conventional concrete, reducing transportation requirements, project logistics and associated costs.
- Durable Performance – CCX® provides a durable concrete surface with abrasion resistance more than 3.5 times that of conventional OPC concrete and a design life in excess of 50 years when properly installed.
CCX® Bulk Water Infrastructure Applications
- Canal Lining – Large hydraulic systems such as irrigation canals, navigation canals, and rivers can be lined. CCX® is highly suited for lining large profiles, either as remediation for existing concrete canals or for new earth canal linings.
- Reservoir lining – Line and enhance existing reservoirs, providing a protective geomembrane above the waterline where conventional liners could be damaged. The exposed reservoir crest region or the complete containment surface can be lined with CCX®.
- Hydroelectric Channels – Large uniform profile channels, such as feeder canals and flumes for hydroelectric plants.
