Cellular Confinement BaseLok Geocell
BaseLok™ geocell is a flexible three-dimensional cellular structure featuring an open and porous design that confines soil or aggregate material of choice. BaseLok™ geocell is the perfect solution for civil engineers when trying to find the balance between soil drainage and compaction. Although both are desired in construction, the better a material’s ability to drain, the lower its ability to compact and the lower its bearing capacity. BaseLok™ geocell eliminates the issue of low compaction and bearing capacity by preventing horizontal movement of the fill and increasing shear strength and bearing capacity. The proximity of the cells provides considerable weight distribution to support heavy loads without displacement.
Being open and porous by design, geocell also allows for vertical and lateral water drainage for effective groundwater recharge while avoiding erosion and surface runoff. Vegetation can grow through the geocell structure for a more natural, green aesthetic look.
BaseLok™ geocell is primarily used for base stabilization and slope reinforcement but can also be used for slope and channel erosion protection and in the construction of retaining walls. As a base stabilization solution, geocell works to prevent horizontal movement of the fill material and significantly heightens the material’s shear strength and bearing capacity. The proximity of the cells provides considerable weight distribution to support heavy loads without displacement, helping to expedite construction for access roads over the soft ground without being adversely affected by wet weather conditions. For slope applications, its flexibility allows contouring to the subgrade of a slope, reducing preparation time. Cells can be filled with angular rock, concrete, or with vegetated soil. The infill material is confined, creating a stable layer that protects the slope. When filled with vegetated soil or rock, geocell permeability reduces water runoff.
