Engineered Earth Armoring Solution – PROPEX Armormax®
PROPEX ARMORMAX®
Engineered Earth Armoring Solution
PROPEX Armormax® is an engineered earth armoring system designed to address severe erosion and surficial slope stability
challenges. The system combines PROPEX Pyramat High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat (HPTRM) with corrosionresistant Engineered Earth Anchors, which work together to lock soil in place and protect against hydraulic stresses.
PROPEX Armormax® provides a durable, vegetated alternative to traditional hard armoring methods. It is commonly used to protect levees exposed to storm surge or overtopping, as well as stream, river, and canal banks prone to scour.
Benefits of ARMORMAX®
- Provides up to 75 years of design life.
- Supports the EPA Green Infrastructure initiative.
- Recognized as a storm water Best Management Practice (BMP) and is proven to reduce erosion and reinforce vegetation for low-impact, sustainable design.
- Easy to handle, lightweight components for rapid installation.
- Use of lightweight equipment and general labor facilitates installation with limited site access.
- Aesthetically pleasing and more cost effective than conventional methods such as rock rip rap and concrete paving.
Applications
- Earthen dams and spillways
- Roadway embankments
- Stream, river, and canal banks
- Steepened slopes
- Stormwater channels
- Levees and flood control structures
- Wildfire-prone areas and defensible spaces
Technical Notes
- Durable Armoring System
Lightweight protection layer securely anchored to the subgrade for long-term design life.
- PYRAMAT® HPTRM with High Strength Woven Surface
Withstands extreme hydraulic stresses and resists non-hydraulic damage.
- Anchor Tie-Down Mechanism
Secures the HPTRM firmly to the ground for additional safety.
